The Night Sky in Barbados

Barbados may be known for its beautiful beaches and lush tropical landscape, but its night skies are just as gorgeous to look at. With low levels of light pollution and planets passing directly overhead instead of close to the horizon, like you would see in North America or Europe, star gazing in Barbados isn’t something to miss out on.

On cloudless nights, you’ll be able to see an even more spectacular display. Spend a relaxing evening lounging in the pool, cocktail of your choice in hand, gazing at the stars. Or cozy up in the gazebo with a comforting cup of tea, and pick out the constellations in the night sky. The end result is sure to be mystical and meditative.

blankEarly 2025 is a great time to view Venus and Mars. Venus will be clearly visible in the early hours after the sun begins to set, and Mars will be visible for most of the night. But Jupiter will shine more brightly than Mars because of its large size (21 times larger than Mars’s diameter), and it can be best viewed directly after sunset and for most of the night. Neptune is also generally easy to spot, especially in the late evening after sunset. Check out this site for daily updates on planet visibility, and this site for monthly updates.

There are plenty of constellations to watch for as well. Capricornus, Aquarius, Pisces, the Seven Sisters, and Orion are just a few to look out for.

Make sure to download the Skyview app to help identify all the constellations and planets! It can be a fun family activity or a romantic date night. Our concierge can also book a professional astronomer to come to the Villa and point out the intricacies of the sky.

If you’re looking to dive deeper into star gazing, stop by the Harry Bayley Observatory in Bridgetown. The observatory is open to the public on Friday nights starting at 7pm, and you can look through the telescope, take in presentations, and learn more about the wonders of the night sky. Typically, you can expect to observe one or two planets and about several deep-sky objects during your visit. Ask our concierge staff to arrange a visit to the observatory for you.

Make sure to take time to slow down during your stay at Casablanca. The Villa is built for your relaxation and comfort, and the quiet evenings are the perfect time to put your feet up, gaze at the stars, and take a moment for yourself. Ask our chef to prepare your favourite snack, cocktail, or beverage, and relax under the stars. With the beautiful landscape of Barbados, in the sky and on land, your vacation will be truly unforgettable.
